I am Mikayla Dones, a singer-songwriter from Oakland, California. 
 

Over the last several years, my father and I have had the opportunity to make music together and we are excited to share our creations. But my journey in music began long before I graced this world.
 

Prior to my parents meeting, my mother sang in church and school choirs and my father played the drums before transitioning to a bass player for a band called “Togetherness”. 
 

When they did meet, they eventually captured their love for music in my father’s home studio. My mother laid down vocals and my father arranged them to create Conquer, a demo that they were never able to finish. 
 

All of this happened while I was in the womb, leaving their musical mark on me before I ever took my first breath. To no surprise, growing up I loved music and performing. I soaked in a diverse range of sounds—Gospel, Jazz-Fusion, Classical Soul, R&B, Rock, and Hip-hop—without one genre taking the lead.
 

Fast forward to 2021, I shared my first track, “My Baby’s Finally Home”, a track inspired by the memory of my mom who passed away in 2017. I've come to understand that I'm not just creating music; I'm a vessel, a conduit for something greater, allowing that higher force to flow through me and into my art.
 

The connection between music, emotion and spirituality has always intrigued me. That's why my songs aim for more than just entertainment; they're about empowerment, inspiration, and lifting spirits.
